How long is the TOEFL iBT score valid? +

TOEFL iBT scores are valid for 2 years from the test date. This is standard across all ETS tests. After 2 years, your scores will no longer be accessible in the ETS system, though you can request a score report reprint for tests taken within the last 2 years. Most universities require scores that are valid at the time of application, not necessarily at the time of enrollment.

Can I retake the TOEFL iBT if I'm not satisfied with my score? +

Yes, you can retake the test as many times as you wish, but no more than once in a 3-day period. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the test. Your MyBest scores will automatically combine your highest section scores from all valid tests in the last 2 years. The fee for retaking the test is the same as the original registration fee ($205-$255 depending on location).

What is the difference between TOEFL iBT and IELTS? +

While both test English proficiency, there are key differences: TOEFL iBT is fully computer-based with American English focus, while IELTS offers paper and computer options with British/Australian English. TOEFL speaking is recorded; IELTS speaking is face-to-face with an examiner. TOEFL is preferred by US institutions; IELTS is more widely accepted in UK, Australia, and Canada. TOEFL uses multiple choice extensively; IELTS includes fill-in-the-blank and matching tasks.

How soon can I get my TOEFL results? +

Official scores are available approximately 6 days after your test date (3-4 days for tests taken after April 1, 2026). You will receive an email notification when your scores are ready. PDF score reports can be downloaded from your ETS account, and official reports can be sent to institutions electronically or by mail. Rush reporting is available for an additional fee if you need scores sent within 2-3 days.

Is the TOEFL iBT Home Edition accepted by all universities? +

The Home Edition is accepted by 99% of institutions that accept the TOEFL iBT test. However, it's always recommended to check with your specific target institutions before booking. Some programs, particularly those requiring on-campus presence, may have specific requirements. The Home Edition has the same content, format, and scoring as the test center version.
